$*$ Black Decker VPX1201 Li Ion VPX 7 volt Drill Driver

I've owned this drill for 3 years, and it rocks.

This is light enough and has all the right features to make it the greatest electric screwdriver, ever. AND it will do lots of light duty drilling. The only thing that really holds it back is the trigger.

Cons:

1. No variable speed trigger. This is not really an issue, whatsoever, due to the other features.

2. Clunky trigger! This is the real problem. The nozzle at the gas station has a better trigger than this thing. This is the reason for only 4 stars.

Pros:

1. 1-piece, key-less chuck

2. adjustable slipper clutch

3. 2 speed settings, (including 1 that is much faster than other electric screwdrivers!)

4. short handle-to-tip distance and very light weight, for a drill

All of these features make the VPX drill a great ELECTRIC SCREWDRIVER.

Because the chuck is 1-piece, the spindle locks when the drill is off. This means you can start loosening a screw manually, then finish with power. Or you can drive a screw down at very high speed until the adjustable clutch slips. Then you can finish the last turn with manual finesse.

If you need more torque, turn it down to the slow speed. It's now the same speed as a regular electric screwdriver.

I have access to name-brand li ion drivers at work, which have variable speed triggers but no slipper clutch. The B&D VPX drill is much faster AND less prone to stripping screws. As a bonus, this thing also has enough power to handle 75% of the jobs where I actually need an electric drill.
